How Can You Get Involved In Your Child’s Education?
Your involvement is an integral part of your child’s education! By taking an active role in our school, parents show their children that they are valued and that education is important. Below you will find a variety of ways that you can be involved in the education of your child:
- Encourage your child to read daily

- Attend parent/teacher conferences
- Join the school Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) for multiple volunteer opportunities
- Serve on the District Educational Improvement Committee. (Contact tcargill@hisd.com if you’re interested!)

- Communicate regularly with your child’s teacher
What Is Title 1?
Title 1 is one of the nation’s largest federal programs through which school districts receive federal funding to provide supplemental instruction for students based upon academic need. The goal is to increase performance and academic achievement in the areas of language arts and/or mathematics. Schools are identified as Title 1 based on the economic level of the families who attend. The number of students receiving free and reduced lunch qualify a school to receive Title 1 funding.
What Is The Purpose Of Title 1?
- Help every child receive a high quality education
- Build capacity for parent involvement
- Provide professional development for building staff
Hallsville Intermediate & Title 1
The free and reduced lunch population at Hallsville Intermediate is greater than 40 percent, which qualifies us for school-wide Title 1 status. Funding is used to benefit ALL students in the school. Hallsville Intermediate uses Title 1 funds to purchase technology and academic resources, host parent meetings and activities, and provide collaborative planning and professional development for teachers.
Eligibility Requirements
A variety of factors are used to determine student eligibility, including but not limited to: standardized tests, classroom-based assessments and performance, as well as teacher recommendations.
School-Parent Compact
The School/Parent compact is an agreement between the parents and the school to help ensure each child’s academic success. It states that all parties agree they are going to work together to improve learning. Federal Title 1 guidelines require school districts to provide parents with a copy of this compact.
